Dr. Barbra Villona, international emergency physician, Dr. Kathy Mechling, family practice physician, Dr. Ginger Jaschke, pediatric psychiatrist, and Dr. Margaret Philhower, Naturopathic Physician joined us for this important town hall. Senator Jeff Golden Joined us to discuss the future of the Oregon Health Plan.
In the midst of this pandemic and economic crisis, we have a developing crisis in healthcare. We discussed some of the different dimensions of this crisis, such as access to care, PPE for caregivers, workers’ compensation, stress and burnout for care providers, prevention of trauma for children and other issues.
With the COVID-19 crisis it is more crucial than ever that everyone have access to testing, medical advice and treatment.
Many have lost their jobs and their health care coverage, and we are also facing a Medicaid/Oregon Health Plan funding crisis all across the country.
We are struggling to convince and motivate many in our communities to follow the safety guidelines that have been outlined by local, state and national healthcare professionals.
Another issue we discussed are the dangers that our caregivers face. Some of our hospitals have inadequate PPE for nurses, yet we have heard of some hospitals that have denied worker’s comp claims if nurses contract the virus. I also hear of the access struggles of migrant farm workers. There are many related issues.
TOWN HALL 4: Listening to Youth Voices (see more)
6:30 PM
Jerry engaged a fabulous panel of 5 young activists in a dialogue about our political climate and what is happening in our communities, our state and our country, to learn what issues they think we should focus on.
We want to even more effectively welcome young people into community dialogue. Their voices are important, and we need to bring our young citizens to the table and engage with them!
I deeply enjoyed to listening and hearing what they had to say.
